The Terror That Is Star

So my Chihuahua had a comprehensive exam yesterday and decided to act a plum fool at the vet’s office. She got dropped off in the morning and I was supposed to pick her up in the afternoon. Cool, I thought everything would be fine. She was to get her nails clipped, a Dremel, and then her exam. Well, about forty-five minutes later I get a call from the veterinarian saying that she was really anxious, not allowing anyone to put a muzzle on her, and trying to bite the staff. If they could not calm her down I was going to have to pick her up and reschedule another comprehensive visit; which I was not trying to do.

So I asked if she could get a sedative to help her calm down. They said no because she would have had to have taken the sedative two hours prior to her visit. Mind you I brought in at 8:30am and she was to be picked up at 3:00pm. Usually, they have her exam completed in about four hours. I felt that they could have given her the sedative, have her wait the two hours, and then proceed to give her the vaccinations. They would not do that so onto plan B. I asked if I could come in and put a muzzle on her and the vet agreed.

I get there then I am put into one of the exam rooms while one of the veterinarian assistants goes to bring her out. When she brings her out she has on these gloves that came all the way up to her elbow. Almost like what a beekeeper would have on but made out of a thicker material. I thought “This dog is only seven pounds so even if she did bite you the gloves would protect you”. Of course, no one wants to be bitten but she is so tiny really how much damage could she cause. But I didn’t say anything I just wanted to get this over with.

The vet assistant brings Star to the floor to hold her down (she was gentle with her) and I was able to put the E-collar on her. This took all of eleven seconds. I’m thinking “So no one, not one-single-person could hold this pup down to get this E-collar on”. But then I wonder how bad my pup was. Was she foaming at the mouth? Was her head spinning like the Exorcist? Was she cussing everyone out via barking? I don’t know. I just cannot see how this little Chihuahua is causing them so many problems.

I leave and I didn’t get any more calls until it was time to pick her up. I went to pick her up and she’s causing more problems. At this point, she would not allow anyone to take her out of the kennel she was in. I had to go in the back where the kennels for all of the dogs were and get her. Again this dog is only seven pounds. They could have just stooped down scooped her up and brought her out to me.

It’s just so funny to me that they could not tame this little Chihuahua and they deal with dogs that are eighty to well over one hundred pounds on a daily basis. They wrote in her file about what she was doing and how anxious she gets. Now every time she has to get an exam I have to give her a sedative prior to her going.

My pup now has a reputation with her seven-pound self  😂.
