Status seems to be something that has become really important to people nowadays. I
know that most people have heard of “Stunnin” or “Keeping up with the Joneses”
or heck “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” especially with social media
everybody is doing great. But a lot of people show that they have this fancy
lifestyle that they post but that really isn’t the case. Now if you really have
that life and want post it or even if you don’t have that life and are lying
that’s your business. But I’ve decided that I don’t about living that
lifestyle. I like what I like, I drive what I like, and I live how I want to
live regardless of what media shows or what people think I should have at this
point in my life.
I say all that to say that my family and I will be
downsizing from a three bedroom two and a-half bedroom townhome with a one-car
garage, walk-in closet, and a back patio to a two bedroom two bathroom
apartment. In the past I would have felt less than because we have been working
so hard to be in a better place than we were before and it seems like we have
taken a step back.
We could have stayed at the bigger place but now we
will be able to actually save money by downsizing. The great part is that now I
am not hesitant, at all, to let people know that we are taking a step back now
in order to make better steps in the future. I don’t care about keeping up an
image for anyone.
I know that our decision was based on what made
sense for our family and not based on us not being able to afford to stay at
our current place; but even if it was it doesn’t matter. We are the only ones
paying for where we stay.
My husband and I have made some really dumb
decisions in regards to managing money in the past and now we are on a mission
to do better. The first step would be this move. The interesting part is that I
am so excited to move to this smaller place. I won’t have to clean as much and
we will all be on one level so we will most likely hang together more. But I
can’t lie I will miss my walk-in closet though 😉
What are some things that you use to try and “keep
up” with?
