Shiny Things

I’ve heard the saying “women are attracted to shiny things” but I believe that we all are but in different ways.  A more fitting analogy for this blog would be using the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side” but my first thought was being attracted to shiny things so… we’re going to go with that. I have been trying to find a dentist to get some work done, so I call this dental office, set up an appointment they accept my insurance and we good to go. Me and the hubs go and get our teeth cleaned and do a consultation.

This place was awesome! The atmosphere was very calm, the waiting area was beautiful, they had water, tea, and Starbucks coffee. Once I found out about the Starbucks coffee I was sold. In addition they utilized a lot of technology, they were very informative, and had a lot of available staff. I needed a deep cleaning and I was told that it could be done the same day. So I was very excited…until the woman in charge of finances came to tell me that my insurance was not accepted because they was another dental group on my insurance. I started to get a little concerned because now I don’t know how much this is going to cost. But it ended up not being a big deal, she was very nice and they waived all of our fees, yay! Now I’m calling my insurance company to first find out if I could switch to this place. Turns out we cannot switch dental groups because we DHMO not PPO and this dental group only took PPO.

After this I make some calls and do some comparison pricing with the dentist that was listed on my insurance. The new dental group that I found does take DHMO and they would charge approximately $1,100 less than what the very nice place would have charged me. And anyone who knows me knows that I abso-freaking-lutely LOVE a discount.  So now I’m sold on this place…until I start “googling”.
Now this place in my opinion was not bad at all. I saw a few pictures from 2013 it did not look like the other place but the place could have been upgraded, who knows. I know that I loved the prices and the receptionist was extremely nice and brown sugar sweet so I make an appointment. But I made the appointment so fast that then start to feel like I missed out on some places that would have all the nice things and would be closer to my home. I get on my computer and I’m googling away and I find this really nice and shiny place (see this is where the shiny part comes in). I speak with the receptionist who is really nice and I give him all of my information then I find out the office is strictly orthodontics.

I’m not defeated I AM GOING TO FIND ME A NICE SHINY DENTIST OFFICE! Well after googling for a while I thought to myself “What was wrong with the second place, I have not seen it but they cost less and they seem very nice. Get over yourself and go to this appointment you might be surprised.” I stop my google search and be grateful that for one I have insurance (Thank the LAWD for that, another day, another blog), two they take my type of insurance, three I have a car to drive to the appointment (the dental group is only twenty minutes away, I know lazy right), four my children will be able to be seen there, and five the out-of-pocket cost will be ridiculously low for me, free for my children, and almost free for the hubs. Why was I tripping???

Oftentimes I’m not the person that gets swayed by shiny things but this incident taught me that in some areas I can stray a little to the left. I’m glad that this happened because it allowed me to check myself and not get caught up in the shiny things.

Have you ever got caught up in the shiny things?
